Notes for School Kitchen Gas Retrofit

School kitchen gas retrofits must watch ceiling height, piping, and—most important—use licensed professionals. What else matters?

Key notes

1. Avoid moving gas if possible. If you must, confirm the utility allows the change and stay within permitted scope.

2. Do not move the meter or incoming pipe; use quality fittings and choose valves carefully.

3. Run pipes on non-combustible walls. Clearances: about 150 mm when parallel horizontally, 100 mm when parallel vertically (gas outside other pipes), and 50 mm at crossings.

4. Never install indoor gas in explosive stores, electrical rooms, cable trenches, flues, or air intakes.

5. Keep kitchen risers accessible for service; do not convert a kitchen with an internal riser to other uses; outdoor risers need safe access/platforms.

6. After opening gas, soap-bubble test meters, extensions, and joints; tightness test at about 300 mm water column.

7. Always hire professionals—DIY gas work risks lives.
