How to Clean Grease from Kitchen Walls

Grease on kitchen walls is frustrating; long cooking leaves a yellowish film. How can it be cleaned? CHINENG shares methods that help keep walls cleaner.

Methods for cleaning kitchen wall grease

1. Vinegar: White vinegar cuts grease, disinfects, and leaves little odor. It also helps with smoke stains. Use vinegar neat for heavy grease, or dilute with water for routine cleaning; spray and wipe with a damp cloth or sponge.

2. Baking soda: Sprinkle on a soft sponge, wipe greasy areas, then finish with a clean dry cloth to remove residue.

3. Cooking oil: A little vegetable oil on a paper towel can lift grease from walls surprisingly well.

4. Salt: Sprinkle salt to absorb oil, then spray borax or vinegar solution and wipe. Salt mixed with rubbing alcohol at about 1:4 also works for thorough wiping.

5. Borax: A borax–lemon paste can absorb grease, but toxicity makes it a poor choice for kitchens; not recommended.

6. Toothpaste: Useful for grease in wall joints with a soft brush, without damaging the finish—but cost is high, so it is not recommended as a routine method.
