Can a hotel kitchen have a fire hydrant?

Hydrants are generally not placed inside kitchens. That conflicts with fire rules and slows firefighter access. They belong in corridors, lobbies, and other shared spaces—usually recessed in walls—with clear “FIRE HYDRANT” marking and no obstacles in front of the cabinet door.

Types of fire hydrants

1. Indoor hydrant: a valved outlet on the indoor fire main, installed in a cabinet with hose and nozzle for factories, warehouses, high-rises, public buildings, and ships.

2. Outdoor hydrant: on the outdoor fire main for fire engines to draw water, or for direct hose attack—still a key firefighting asset.

3. Rotating hydrant: the body can rotate 360° on its base, so it fits ultra-thin cabinets. When idle, the outlet turns parallel to the wall; in use, it swings out perpendicular for hose connection.
